While learning about website design you end up reading all sorts of articles, get rich schemes and some things that actually make sense. However one of the problems I keep coming up against is that people quiet often type in search terms that either don't make sense in terms of the English language or are just a result of bad spelling due to the people not knowing the correct spelling.

The search engines do their best by suggesting possible spellings but you don't always get the information you want.

Next selecting keyword terms that match your business segment or the possible clients you want to atract. The suggestion is that you choose keywords that are not heavily targeted by exisitng businesses, but - well what's the point of that, they chose those keywords because they were the ones most people use.

Google has some good tools to help you choose words based on what people actually search on and how many sites are targeting those words., Yahoo has similar tools thru the Overture program.
